Scope of project
For this project I chose a small local Kansas City business that needs some revamping to their logo. The company I chose was The Kansas City Soap Company. The company is a small company that is run by a couple and they sell homemade soap and other skincare products at the City Market and online. I chose this company because I wanted to elevate this business and make their products more sellable and take a old fashioned logo and renovate it into a modern logo. After making the logo I wanted to make some business products that the business could use.
Process
So I started off by coming up with a lot of different symbols and word marks. I then took what I created and combined them into about 20 combination marks. I had to narrow my logos down to my strongest six. I then took my designs to the computer and got busy in Adobe Illustrator. I did not want to be influenced by any colors. So I decided to create them in black and white and then convert them to color after I made six strong black and white logos. After this was down I knew I wanted to incorporate blues into the logo. When I think of the color blue I think of relaxing, refreshing, and clean and that fits the description of soap and bubbles perfectly. I messed around with several shades of blue but then ended up sticking with white, gray, and a bright "bubbly" blue. After I chose my logo I wanted to brand even further and make several business products that could elevate the business further. I made a business card, letterhead, and an envelope. I wanted to incorporate bubbles into each product so it would look cohesive. I wanted to keep the products simplistic but also exciting and I think I did just that.
Overall
My favorite thing about this product was having the freedom to choose whatever company we wanted to rebrand. I also think branding is so fun and I just love it overall. I think its super cool to see how you can make someone be influenced to buy something just because they find the packaging appealing. One thing I was not a big fan of was trying to rebrand a product and make it look professional. I feel like making bubbles look professional is a difficult task. I didn't want anyone to think that this was created by a kid (even though it kinda was!). Overall, I really enjoyed the whole process of creating a logo. This was similar to what a job would be like in the real world with graphic design and branding. I got a business, had to rebrand it, and make business products for the company. Doing this made me love graphic design a whole lot more.
