Houston residents celebrate Astros World Series 2017 victory By: Al Jazeera's Heidi Zhou-Castro

I really enjoyed the standup that the reporter did. She moved her hands well and she also had a good background and it dealt with the things she was talking about. She had a good voice and sounded intriguing when she talked. I also really enjoyed the second interview shot. It was really pretty and was different then any other interview shots I have seen.

I would suggest making the story more about the World Series win.  The story title makes me believe that the story is mainly about the Houston Astros. However when the story started it was mainly about the devastating hurricane the hit Houston. It was a great story I just wasn't clear that the story was going to be about the hurricane as well.

In the future I will definitely try to included a standup in my videos. They add a lot of interest to the story and overall just makes them better. I will also try new creative shots for interviews and B-roll.

This week I have not been a great leader. I did take initiative to come in early and finish the physics story and helped Sarah through anchoring ONW Now.

Weekly Blog Post

Two Fires Break Out Near Dodger Stadium During Game, CBS Los Angeles

The reporter did a great job on giving clear and concise information on the two fires that out broke. during the World Series game. He had a really good voice in my opinion and sounded for intriguing. I also enjoyed that he got an interview even though the segment was happening live and it made me more interested in the story.

I do not have many critiques on the story but I do think they could have gotten more interviews. If I have anything I would say that on the lower thirds to move the logo and social media information farther to the right of the lower thirds.

I think that I will implement the shot where there were two different clips on the screen at once. I think that that helped me see what was going on in and around the stadium. I will also try to do a live report like that. I think that that would be really cool to try and it would add a lot to my skills as a reporter and journalist.

I  think that I could have used my time a little better this week. There were times when I didn't have anything to do and I just sat around rather than helping someone out or working on my future stories. Hopefully next week I can use my time more productively and wisely.

News Reflection

I think that the reporters did good job interacting with each other. I think they had a good sense of humor which made me more interested in the story. I think the story was entertaining. I also believe that they made good eye contact with the camera as well as with each other. I like how they used hand movements too.

Although this story was great I think that they could sound a little more energetic and have a better voice. I also think they could have added something more. After awhile I got a little bored of seeing the same shot. I think they could add some images of some animations to show the statistics they were talking about.

In my future videos I will have a good balance with eye contact between co workers and the camera. I will also add humor and sound slightly informal to allow the viewers to be more comfortable with me and find the stories I produced more entertaining.

This week I have not been a great leader. However last week I believe that I was a little bit of a leader when I finally started to do some things as a producer and create the world news segment the day ONW Now was produced.

Essay

Have I done any good in the world today? or even this week? These are questions I should ask myself more. Sometimes I think that I become too caught up in my own problems and difficulties to even stop and consider that someone could have it worse. Instead of feeling bad for myself I should help others because I have the ability to improve someone's situation rather than throw myself a pity party because my wi-fi sucks or I didn't get the present I wanted. When I reflect on my actions this week or even today, there were instances were I could have helped someone or done some good in the world but I chose not to or I was honestly to oblivious to recognize that someone needed help because quite honestly after reflecting on myself I'm selfish. I'm also always looking to criticize someone else or others rather than self evaluating myself and asses how I can get better and take action to reach the goal that is necessary. Take my house chores for example. I feel like sometimes I do the majority of the work, whether that is true or not I do not know, but I always am so concerned and worried about what others ARE NOT doing rather than just doing the dishes or other chores because they need to get done and someone has to do them. I have to improve myself rather the knocking others down because I believe that I'm slightly better than them. They need to recognize what they should do and they need to find the good in themselves.

I can improve what I don in e-Comm as well. I think that my first error this week was joining in on the class when they were bashing SIDs and the Raven Roundup. I think that instead of focusing on how we as Convergence Journalism can become better than the other strands we should focus on how we as e-Communication can become the best program in the Olathe District and then become the best nation or country that has the best production of news. I think that moving forward in this class I will try to be a lot nicer to my peers and my teacher because they all deserve respect because they have not given me a reason to not give them my respect.

Not Good

I was quick to judge the role of a producer and was hesitant to give this job a try and I sort of threw a tantrum because I was scared to mess up.

Good

I quickly last minute put together b-roll for the World News segment although it was poorly executed I got it done.

Better

I attempted a new role/job and although I don't believe that I was the best producer I still gave it try and did the best I could as a newbie.

Best

I don't believe that I did anything worthy of best. Next week however I want to achieve something in all the levels so that I can continue to grow in the weeks to come.

I believe that after reflecting on this week I have learned that I have a lot of improving to due to become the person I want to be in the future. I think that our class should be more respectful of our teachers. I think that some people in e-Comm do not have the motivation to do hard work and they just wanted an easy class. I will continue to improve myself in the weeks to come.

News Story Reflection

LGBTQ students targeted during Olathe Northwest High School homecoming parade  By: KCTV5 News

I enjoyed how the reporter how an excited voice and did not sound monotone. I liked how she stated facts and kept the report unbiased. She had good evidence to support her story.

I think that she could have gotten better b-roll. I realize that getting b-roll might have been difficult but she could have gotten creative and gotten a better variety.

I will continue to sound energized in my voiceover and always get a variety of b-roll to keep my story interesting. I collaborated this week with the whole class but more specifically I collaborated with Sarah Miguel and I helped her write her story and she helped give me advice on my video for ONW Now this week.

News Story Reflection

Pop Star Selena Gomez Reveals Kidney Transplant | NBC Nightly News

In this story I liked how the reporter explained who Selena Gomez was, what Lupus was and how it effects other. I also enjoyed how the reporter got a professional experienced in the medical field to explain what Lupus and it makes it seem more reliable than if the reporter said it.

I think that if there was anything that should be improved is that maybe include a quote from a person that has Lupus to get there opinion on the disease. I think that this would only make the story stronger and it would help me know what it feels like to have Lupus.

For my future videos I will want to include multiple opinions in my stories to make my story stronger and I would want to continue to interview people that have a relation to the story or have professional experience in the story.

News Story Reflection

"Patriots stunned by Chiefs in season opener, 42-27" By: Meghan Ottolini

In this video I liked the reporter's lead into the story. I thought she did a good job at drawing me into the story. I also liked how the lower thirds looked in the video. I enjoyed the clips of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick speaking about the loss and how they flowed into the story.

There were a couple of things that I would have done differently in this video. I thought she should use b-roll that had movement. She mainly used pictures and I slowly became disinterested in the video. I also believe that she could have been more energetic with her reporting. She had a good voice overall but I thought maybe she could have sounded more excited.

In my future videos I will likely implement a strong lead to grab the reader/viewer's attention. I think that I have learned that while doing a standup I should sound excited and not have a boring voice. I also will try to avoid using a bunch of pictures in my videos so I can prevent the viewers from becoming disinterested in my videos.
