Why Posters?

The character and function of the poster

Posters are used to bring a message to our minds and allow us to develop our own opinions of things. They can also be used to promote products or people and and also provide entertainment. Sometimes posters can bring awareness to political situations occurring or problems happening in the community.  Posters are printed in large quantities to allow lots of people to see them. Posters are a popular way of communicating messages to the public and sparking interest among viewers.  A poster should convince and motivate the person looking at it. It should accomplish a economic, cultural, political, or social purpose. Posters should also lead the viewer to the product or message being advertised and should make the viewer a positive attitude about the message or product.

The laws of poster-designing

Now that you know the basics of what a poster is used for and why we use them you should also know what "laws" are applied when creating a poster of your own. You want your poster to be an attention grabber and strike interest among viewers.  You want viewers to react to it and stand and read what your poster is all about. There is no real secret tip on how to get every person to stop and read your poster. You need to make a poster that draws all viewers attention. It should be flexible to all ages, characters, level of education, etc... You don't want your poster to only appeal to a certain group. Sure you can have a target audience but you want lots of people to find some message, purpose, or takeaway from the poster as a whole.

General laws

Here are a few general pieces of advice that may allow your poster to be universal. Your poster needs to be legible and have a clear message, must arise interest, must be well thought out and planned, designed with a large shape so it is effective at great distance, and when close to the poster it must provide impulse, and last but least the poster should be memorable. You want the poster to be in the viewers mind and spark the viewers interest enough to make the viewer continuously think about your poster.

Lettering

Here are some specifics laws in lettering that make your poster look better. You want your lettering to present information that is easy for a person who is walking to grab. You want people who are not willing to stop to be able to at least gather some information. You also want your lettering to be at a six that is legible at a distance but not to big when close up. The information must be brief but details, simple, and identical to the pictorial part so that it increases the communicative effect.

Shapes

Here are a couple of rules about using shapes in posters. Your poster should be clearly expressed by important shapes and colors. You need the poster and shapes to be effective at a distance. You should also arrange shapes accordingly and in and organized format. The shapes should allow the text to be read quickly.  Horizontal and vertical shapes can provide a static form. Overlapping shapes with text can add unity to the poster. Last but not least pictorial elements on the right seem heavier than those on the left.

Color

Color can emphasize the object of social, economic, political and cultural campaigns.  Color can be used as a color of the object. Color can strongly innovate the experimental expression. Color can add an impression of rhythm. Color can also clarify situations. Color can connect the poster as a whole and make the poster look put together.

Key Points

I would say that if you were going to take away three major points from the blog post it would be to be universal to all groups of people, make your poster memorable, and have a clear and organized message. Like I said previously, you want everyone to be able to take something away from your poster. If everyone can get a message from the poster it will be memorable. You want your poster to be memorable because this will allow viewers to think about your poster again and again. it will spark interest among them and they will want to learn more about your product or message. Lastly, you want your message to be clear and organized. If someone is walking past your poster you want them to be able to pick a message of quick without having to stop and look at it for five minutes and try to decipher what you are wanting your poster to convey.

Favorite thing I read

My favorite thing from this article was that the use of poster is one of the most popular ways to conveys a message to a large audience. It establishes a connection with the viewer using pictures and text. I really thought that this really explained in general what a poster is all about. It is way to get a message across using graphics that you created with a message that you are passionate about.

Overall

In general, a poster is a way to get a message across using pictures and text. Posters are printed in large quantities to get lots of people to look at them. When making a poster you should follow a couple rules. You should have a well thought out plan for your poster, you should use text that can be seen at a distance and a text that has the ability to have information be picked up quickly. I would also say that you should have color to bring your poster together.
