e9 Reflection

e -Communication Reflection

What did I learn?

This year I learned the basics of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, SketchUp, and Final Cut Pro. In Adobe Illustrator I got to learn what colors mean, how to use shapes in logos, and how to make text look good. In Photoshop I got to learn how to use the clone stamp tool, adjust the hue of colors, how to blend images, how to use text mask, gradients, and layer effects. In SketchUp I learned how to use shapes to make 3D animations and images. In Final Cut Pro I learned that ipads can make great movies! I learned how to cut clips, sync clips to the beat, I learned specific types of shots and when to use them. Most importantly I learned how to communicate well with others, how to brainstorm ideas, and I got to make new friends and meet new teachers.

How did I learn it?

I learned most of this by my e-Communication teachers: Mr.Olson, Mrs.Lofquist, Mr.Cooper. Mr.Olson taught me how to make 2D and 3D objects move. Mrs.Lofquist taught me how to make a logo actually look good and kept me up with Graphic Design trends. Mr.Cooper taught that being in class can be fun and how to make really nice videos. Some of my learning was independent. When I had questions or I wanted to learn more about the software I would look up a tutorial online. I learned best when I went out of my way to learn more.

Why is it important?

This program is important because I now have the skills to be in a work environment. This year I really got some insight into what a workplace might be like.  I gained the skills: communication, collaboration, leadership, and project management. I have got to learn that talk to others and sharing my thoughts can make the group stronger and get the group to say their own ideas. I learned that it’s easier to work as a team rather than everyone in the group work independently. I also learned that someone in the group has to take leadership in a project and keep the group members on tasks. I also learned from experience that getting things turned in is important. Some group members or me personally may have to come in outside of class to get assignments done.

What are my strengths and weaknesses?

My greatest strengths are staying on task, helping others, and understanding instructions. I know when to talk and when to not and I am very good at helping other classmates when they ask me for help. My weaknesses are my creativity. Sometimes I struggle with getting ideas and making new things because I can’t think of cool designs.

What am I going to do with what I learned?

I am going to apply what I learned in a future career. I can use all the skills I learned throughout this year in a career in technology. I can use my leadership to keep groups focused. I can use collaboration when working with groups to share ideas and when working together. I can use my technical skills when using technology in the workplace. I can use my communication skills when talking to others in a formal meeting or in a job interview.

What would I change?

I would change some of my projects. I feel that during some of my projects I did not try my best or put my best effort into them. Next year I will really try to do my hardest and make my best work. If I do this I think I can get the results I want.

In conclusion this e9 program helped me make new friends, learn new skills that I never knew I could learn and it helped me love technology even more. After this year I have narrowed down my favorite courses in the program to graphic design and video production.
